I pressed up a limited run of CDs for this album since it was so successful in digital form. The CDs are very bare bones (e.g. no track list) and thus a bit cheaper than my other CDs.

about
A skeleton key (theoretically) opens any door, so the issue for the key holder then becomes one of choice. Whatever, the beat is sick so stop thinking so much.
lyrics
I’d fumble in the dark to get my key in the door
If I didn’t feel like I had seen this before.
Here I stand with a key in each hand
Telling knock-knock jokes in front of a locked door
Under the impression I live as a free man
When deep at the core, I’m really not sure
On this side, time is of the essence
Since my reactions have been predetermined
Quotas to fill before I count blessings
Stressing what I give in order to keep earning
On that side’s a sale on cheap thrills
Only evil doers have ever thought of running
From A to B is a matter of free will
Can’t blame the blind cause they never saw it coming
Middleman mind fucked by foreplay
That never quite comes to either side of the doorway
Hustle the hassle of constant reminders
A lifetime of myths is a lifetime behind us
What you wanna resist doesn’t exist
Littles got big enough keys, but none of em fit.
I’d fumble in the dark to get my key in the door
If I didn’t feel like I had seen this before.
Searching for a new structure to infiltrate
With the overtones of abusive and broken homes
So I can withdraw ruptured to integrate and imitate
The sober moans of the occupants
The smell of the solitude makes me sick
The sound of the company melts to white noise
The guard dog says take your pick
Suddenly subtlety makes lots of sense
I can choose to arrive defenseless
Sent with messages for no one in particular
Throw away the key to deprive my senses
Incentive to understand boredom’s a necessity
Or I can barge in bold with guns drawn
A bully claiming A B C, but doing X Y Z
Silence as soon as the sun’s gone
The night brings about assortment of inequity.
This isn’t pick and choose between win or lose
It’s pick the lock or kick down the door
Try to find a deadbolt to hide behind
Death won’t ever think to look for us here
The skeleton key.
The skeleton key for my relevance be
Me and the choices I make.
A friend of mine back in 2004 pointed me to this track and I was mesmerized. Been a huge Illogic fan ever since! Very nostalgic listening to this again presently. I would love to get this album in vinyl record to add to my collection. :) fyrin
I have been listening to variations of this album a long time. I remember I was living in a cardboard dumpster when some young guy was like yo dude it's gonna rain come crash on my couch. He played The Many Faces of Oliver Hart for me. I fell in love, I set my favorite track as Rain because we looped it when the rain came. That was one of the early acts of kindness I received in the nearly 20 years I've been homeless. @NomadRoamsFree
